Meet FFCF Crew Member Robert Thomas:
“I was a Lineman for Texas New Mexico Power and recently transferred to a system operations job. I have always been extremely active in sports and love the outdoors. I had never really cared much about fitness/working out till I started CrossFit in May of 2017 at FFCF. That changed quickly.
Friends led me to CF. After months of prying I folded to the peer pressure. Despite all the negative things I had heard, I had to try CrossFit for myself. The first day was a struggle, but not because of the movements or the community but because I was out of shape. I remember being DEAD and only half way done with the WOD just wondering how I was going to make it through to the end. That day made me realize that I needed it in my life. The way the community and coaches at FFCF helped me pull through made me feel as if I had known them my entire life. That is what keeps me coming back. Now a year later I am addicted to CF.
My favorite thing about CrossFit? Community, Community and Community. Especially FFCF, but I have been to a few different boxes and done a couple competitions and I haven’t had a bad experience yet. No matter how high the competition or what level you are the people are amazing. Everyone wants you to be the best you can be and it seems as if they will stand by you until you have become that. So the community is by far my favorite, but I do like all the competition.
My favorite workouts are long chippers – something that you look at before and don’t know how you are going to finish. It is mind over matter at that point and you have to push yourself to the limits in a long WOD. I love all gymnastics and muscle ups are probably my favorite. Olympic lifting is also fun, I am just weak and need to continue to work on that.
I would tell someone considering CrossFit ‘DON’T HESITATE.’ Don’t believe all the negativity and don’t be intimidated. If you are unsure of it come in and check out the box, talk to the coaches, ask question everyone is willing to help. CrossFit is a blast.”
